The new JCH site is here!
After months and months of planning, head scratching, changing our minds and then finally realising we have to get it done, we are finally ready to share the new and improved JCH site with you all.

Several months ago, I was speaking with my web guy, David, and we came to the conclusion that the site needed to have a serious upgrade. There were some serious issues with the way the old site was working, and with an ever increasing amount of viewers we realised the old site might not be able to take the strain.

So we decided to build a new site from the ground up, which is no easy task. It took months and quite a fair amount of headaches, but we have finally done it.

There are loads of improvements that you are going to see, not only with the layout but with the ease of navigation, and the cross platform functionality. Finally we can have larger images on the site, video (more on that soon) and so much more.

There are lots of new and exciting things on the site, which I am sure you are all going to enjoy exploring.

One of my favourites is the new search function, which makes it a lot easier to find something on the site. The old one was rubbish, but I think this one will be a lot more fun to use. Now you will actually be able to find all of the bag shots!

Also we have made it easier to find out what services I offer through the site. With much more information and easier links so you can get in touch with me. No more digging around, it is all in one place. All roads lead to Rome as they say.

There are still a few bugs that we are trying to work out and obviously things will change as we figure them out, so please be patient with us. We would like to deliver the best possible experience to you. And that is where you come in. We need your feedback. What do you like? What isn’t working? How can we improve the site more for you? Please comment below and help us make JCH even better.

We are also aware that the images may look blocky on the front page and some other pages. This is a legacy from the old site when I couldn’t use large images, so it will take a while for me to go through some of the posts and change the image sizes. But for future articles the images are going to be a lot better and you can click on them to get a bigger image, w00t!

I would also like to say a huge thanks to David Ashkanasy for his patience, skill and ideas in putting this site together. He is the man who really made this happen. You can check out his site and his work here

The site is going to continually evolve and get better, so keep on coming back and checking out the improvements. I think you will all really like them. please try out all the buttons and see where they lead you, you might find something you have not seen before.

Many thanks for all of your support. I do this for the love of it and your support helps me to bring you more photography news, cameras, new products and everything film related.

Dear Bellamy, first of all thanks for posting my floaties bag!
I really like the new design of the JCH website.
Though this article was scrolling up and down by itself while reading it on my macbook. Also I am very sad to see the little smiley face having vanished from your logo – to me it represented the very human and kind nature of this website/community. I feel without it, it looks just like “another photographers site” and not as welcoming.
All the best to you, Max

Looks alright on a phone, but the font it huge on a desktop (1080p) display. Another thing is that there is no visible separation between elements so it appears a bit messy to me to say the least, which basically cancels out the ‘ease of navigation’ you could say. There is so much scrolling with so little actual content, and so much going on all over the screen, it isn’t a very pleasant experience. Sorry.

Hope it gets better because i’d like to continue reading articles here.

I also am experiencing the up-and-down drift of the blog post, PC/Windows 7

I recently started to watch your website regularly and the redesign looks really good.
The most annoying bug I found was that on mobile the website scrolls up and down because the top slider changes height…
Also, in desktop view, the AdWords floating inside the right of paragraphs are quite distracting. If they would be just at the top and the bottom of the article or maybe grouped in a sidebar I think it would keep things more clean.

Keep up the good work! #filmsnotdead

Sorry, the experience isn’t as nice as before… Like your old website much better. But I’ll come back anyway.

    Hey Bellamy,

the new design looks very nice, it is definitiely a more modern look.

However, I noticed that when viewing articles on my iPad, I can’t scroll up or down, no matter if I am in landscape or portrtait orientation, or using safari or chrome. As one pictures is generally on the top that means I actually can not read the articles on my iPad. But things work smoothly on my iPhone.

    Keep up the great work!

    Hi Bellamy,

Here are my first impressions of the new design: Firstly I like the new, big header images, colours and fonts. I really like the new search function and details like the rollover colour for input fields.

From where I’m viewing, fonts can take a bit of time to load sometimes, and I see some “spinning wheels” before pages load. I’m viewing with Safari 8.0.5 (10600.5.17) on Yosemite 10.10.3 (14D136), and I’m having a bit of a fight scrolling down from the header image/slider at top of each page. I was a bit surprised to see Google ads popping up mid article. I have always found the “Recommended” pop-up distracting, and I wonder if there is a way to include in inline, perhaps instead of “More articles in”. Do you need to include 48 articles in “Latest Articles from Japan Camera Hunter”? I find this a bit overwhelming.

I think it would be great if you could reduce some of the clutter on the home page – I find the advertising quite overpowering as it is now.

Thanks for all of the comments guys. We are doing our best to make this a more pleasant experience. The site is still kind in in a bit of a Beta mode as we work everything out. There are going to be things the people love and others that they hate. But we are doing our best to make sure that you all come away happy and without any issues.

    Hi Bellamy,

I like the bigger images and the look overall, but for me all the stuff in motion distracts me from what I came for. But the main thing is that the new site is _completely_ non-functional (can’t even scroll down the home page) on my early model iPad, which is where I do all my web reading.

Love your site but ist doesnt load anymore. Usinng IE 11 or Firefox 37.0.2 . And this has been ongoing for month now. To write this comment I am using Chrome at a friends PC. How many browsers do I have to install????
Can you fix this? All I saw until last week were adds. Now I can see only one banner on a totally black page. And no articles. There are still people out there who use laptops and PCs.
This used to be one of my favorites – now its just a mess. Really disappointing.
    Regards, Annika

Thanks to you all for your feedback and patience. We are trying to accommodate everyones needs. The site should now be viewable across more platforms and on early ipads too.
We are going to keep on working on this to make sure that the site is the best it can be.
