IN YOUR BAG 1771 – Django Skorupa
The Kit: Like everyone else when I got started I would take a whole backpack worth of gear to go waste three rolls of film on a photowalk. It’s not conducive to good work or a healthy back and shoulders, so now I keep it as light as possible.
- Leica M4 + Voigtlander Ultron: You don’t need a leica to take good pictures but they’re fun. This was an irresponsible celebration of finally landing a job that paid a living wage after four years of food stamps and unemployment checks during covid.
- JCH film holder, full of Tri-X. I like tri-x. I shoot it at between 1250 and 1600 and give it 5 minutes in diafine and it always turns out the way I want it. In low light with a flash that means I’m shooting around f11, which means focusing with a wide lens is frankly optional. For packed house shows, that’s ideal.
- Nikon SB-27: I actually have two of these, I keep one with its hot shoe taped up so I can use it on and off camera on the M4 (no hot shoe) without worry. The other one is backup since a couple months ago it and my camera were roundhouse kicked in a mosh pit. I got the guy good, and the camera and flash are none the worse for wear, thank goodness.
- Sekonic L-858d-u: New to me, it showed up on facebook marketplace for a price I couldn’t refuse and it quickly became indispensable for the medium and large format landscape work I like to do. Not really sure if it belongs in this kit, but it feels nice to know the light I’m working with.
- Microfiber cloths and earplugs: Shows are loud and I want to get in close, and things can get spilled when you’re getting in close. Better have em and not need them than need them and not have em.
- Stickers: People like them more than cards, and I love seeing my face slapped places I’ve never been before.

The Bag: A couple years back the photographer Peter Miller passed on and his family passed his estate on to our local darkroom and gallery space to sell off to the community. His bag, an incredibly beaten, battered, and well loved Billingham ended up with me to the tune of $5. I love it and will never let it go, but it’s more hole than bag at this point, so I’ve shelved it, and picked up one of their Hadley bags instead. I look forward to this one ending up just as abused and broken in thirty years.
That’s all for now! You can find me at @dskorupa_photo on instagram and at django.photos, and django.mmm.page.

Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on Japancamerahunter.com
Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.
Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.
Cheers
