IN YOUR BAG 1765 – Eric van Rijsingen

They still come in from time to time. This time we have an ‘in your bag’, but without a bag. As Eric van Rijsingen doesn’t use one. Does it count? Does it really matter?
Here is my ‘In Your Bag’ submission. I’ve been a long time reader of your website and love your MP-6 setup.

Background

I started photography when I was around 19 years old. My focus back then was skateboard photography. I used to have a large backpack filled with stuff, such as a Hasselblad 500 C/M, Canon 1D, multiple lenses, flashes, etc. When I was around 24 years old, I put my attention towards my law study and quit photography for a while. At 31 years old, I fell in love again with photography and bought a Leica M-A black chrome with a black 35mm Summilux 1.4 FLE. Now at almost 36 years old, I just know that this camera and lens will stay with me.

Bag

Simply put, I don’t use a bag anymore. My Leica is my only camera and I want to keep it that way. Traveling light with only a minimal amount of gear is essential to me.

Camera

Although my Leica and lens are both standard editions, there is something worth mentioning. I had the red paint on my Leica M-A (the two dots on the rewind crank, the flash symbol on the shutter dial and one of the little arrows on the iso dial) converted to orange paint. Not only did I want the orange paint on my camera to match the orange paint on my lens, but it also symbolizes my nationalities. Orange refers to the Dutch Royal Family and symbolizes my Dutch nationality. The rest of the camera symbolizes my German nationality, with Leica obviously having German origins.

Accessories

When I go out to photograph, I want to take as little as possible. I bring a 4 stops ND-filter just in case and sometimes a Field Notes pocket notebook with a simple Parker pen. And of course enough Tri-X. The leather strap on my Leica is the standard strap that came with the camera, I never take it off.

Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on Japancamerahunter.com

Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.
Oh and don’t forget your contact details (Instagram, Twitter, Flickr, Grainery et al). Send the bag shots here. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, you are a photographer after all.

Cheers
