In your bag No: 1588 – Jayson Akeyla
Jayson has started dabbling into film photography and is smitten with this sweet intro setup.
Hi! My name is Jayson Akeyla, I was born and raised in Jakarta, Indonesia and currently reside here as well. I’m currently in the last few months of high school and only recently have I started to shoot with film. Though, I’m still quite invested in a Canon digital system as well but slowly transitioning to Sony.
Currently, I shoot with a Contax G2 with the TLA200 flash, 90mm f/2.8 Sonnar, 35mm /f2.8 Planar, and the 28mm f/2.8 Biogon. This would be the kit that could never leave my bag. The autofocus and rangefinder design makes it such a compact, fast, fun, and easy camera to shoot with. A quirk I love about the Contax G2 is at times when people who have no clue what kind of camera this is would come up to me and ask “Hey, is that a Leica?”. I would always chuckle and try to find a way to explain to them what a Contax G2 is.
The Nikon F3 with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Series E lens is also another personal favourite of mine. It’s a great SLR body and although the lens isn’t the sharpest in the world, (and yes I did not misspell that, it is indeed a Nikon lens, not a Nikkor lens as the Series E was a cheaper line of lenses that wasn’t given the Nikkor title) the size of it alone makes me fall in love with it. It fit’s well in my bag and nobody will think that it’s a film camera, that is up until they ask me on the spot to see the pictures that I’ve taken.
The Nikon 35Ti is not something I would use daily but I do reserve it more for social events. The small size makes it pocketable and the auto-everything makes it great if I want to give it to a friend of mine to shoot some pictures. The 35mm f/2.8 lens is also really really sharp and the autofocus never disappoints.
I shoot mostly with Kodak Portra 400 as the colours are really nice and true to life. The ISO rating for 400 also makes it very versatile in indoors and outdoors situations. The 13” MacBook Pro is what I mainly use to edit after I’ve scanned my films as the lightweight and small & compact size is great for travelling. The iPhone 7 Plus is essential for my daily kindle reading and Instagram scrolling as well as taking more pictures with. The bag I use is a local brand from Jakarta, Indonesia and its the NAMA Lite No.32 with a Billingham Hadley Small Insert inside of it. This bag is tiny but fits all my gear well with enough room to put other stuff inside.
You can see the results of all the cameras that I’ve mentioned in my Instagram:

Thanks for sharing with us your bag shot Jayson. Hope you get some sweet pics at graduation!
Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on Japancamerahunter.com
Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.
Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.
Cheers
