In your bag No: 558, Frederik Buse
Frederik shares his lovely simple setup with us, including some cracking film cameras and a rather spiffy film case, I wonder where he got that from?
I am 32 years old and I live in Heidelberg which is located right in the middle of Germany. I started taking pictures as a teenager when my parents gave me my first Vivitar film camera as a birthday present. Two years ago I bought my first DSLR and got more serious about photography. I stumbled upon Thomas Leuthard’s eBooks on street photography and was immediately hooked. I mostly shoot street photography and urban landscapes now.
I draw most of my inspiration from contemporary photographers like Matt Stuart, Nick Turpin, David Solomons, Caspar Claasen, Shin Noguchi or Richard Bram just to name a few. When it comes to the masters Robert Frank, Joel Meyerowitz and Lee Friedlander speak to me the most.
To be less obtrusive when shooting on the streets I have replaced my DSLR and I am now shooting with smaller cameras. Nam Trans post on the JCH website got me interested to shoot film again and so I bought my first film rangefinder (Canon Canonet QL 17 III) and a Contax T2 from Bellamy (no hidden advertisements here J). I started developing my own black & white film and I use the Massive Dev App to get the development times right. As far as I can tell the results have been quite satisfying. Therefore I plan to develop my own colour film in the near future as well. All in all it is a very nice experience and it helps me to calm down a lot as normal life is always getting quicker…
As I try to be as invisible as possible when I am out shooting my current bag setup is as follows:
Bag: ThinkTank Retrospective 7 (fits all the stuff shown here as well as my iPad)
Fuji X100S
Contax T2 (thanks Bellamy!)
Canon Canonet QL 17 III incl. Flash unit (Found this on eBay for 90€ and it is in a fantastic mint condition)
At least one JCH film case containing B&W and/or colour film – current favourites: Ilford HP5+, Kodak Tmax 400, Fuji Superia 400, Kodak Portra 400
iPhone 4 (including the Massive Dev App for developing my own film)
Sennheiser earbuds
This week I have also taken this bag to Stockholm where I will attend an “In-Public” workshop with Matt Stuart, David Solomons and Blake Andrews. A big shout-out to my Swedish friends from CUP-Stockholm who set up this workhop and an exhibition together with In-Public as well! Check out their website: http://cupstockholm.com/
You can see some of my images on my portfolio website: www.frederikbuse.de
Besides, I regularly upload my new images here:
