Cast your mind back to July 2024 (seems like a lifetime ago, doesn’t it?), and you might recall we got some wonderful film news. Silverbridges announced the WideluxX™,  a modern revival of the original Widelux camera made by Panon Shoko in Japan. There were plenty of people who said they wouldn’t follow through and they were wrong. Presale Opens for WideluxX™

Bad Nauheim, Germany, April 28 — SilverBridges GmbH announces the presale of WideluxX™, a modern revival of the classic Widelux swing-lens panoramic camera, made in Germany. The first production run is limited.

The project was initiated by Oscar-winning actor Jeff Bridges, who has used the original Widelux camera for decades on film sets. Together with his wife, photographer Susan Bridges, and Marwan El Mozayen and Charys Schuler of SilvergrainClassics, he co-founded SilverBridges GmbH to bring swing-lens cameras back into production.

WideluxX™ uses a rotating lens to produce panoramic images in a single continuous exposure on 35mm film. As the lens rotates, the image is formed progressively across the frame, with each part of the scene recorded in sequence rather than at a single moment.

The result is a panoramic image formed progressively over time, with movement recorded as part of the exposure rather than frozen in a single instant.

Made in Germany, WideluxX™ is built as a mechanical instrument using precision-manufactured components and assembled by specialized technicians. It retains the character of the original camera while incorporating modern materials and methods.

The first production run is limited to 350 cameras. The retail price in Germany is €5,200 including VAT. The first cameras are expected to ship within approximately 6–8 months of order.

Orders are paid in full at the time of purchase. Each camera is individually prepared for its owner. If a camera has not shipped within 12 months, customers may request a full refund.
