In your bag 1779 – Nic Hughes

We have a very spiffy In Your Bag today. Nice Hughes has been on the site before, and he is back, with a great setup for the streets of Melbourne, Australia. And this bag has a definite Japan influence to it, right down to the tea and the socks! What is not to like? I will let Nic tell you all about it…

The Journey

My journey into photography took a serious turn in 2010 after purchasing a camera in Japan, Sigma Dp2m. Early on, I realised my primary interest lay in people and their environment. These were the types of photos I liked looking at most.

Michael Bialecki was a strong influence, introducing me to the beauty of film photography and the Leica M camera. Inspired by Bialecki’s work, I traveled to Yangon, Myanmar, where I began shooting with a Leica M6 and film.

I was also deeply influenced by Thai street photographers early on. Other key inspirations include Alex Webb, Paul Graham, Ola Billmont, Eric Kim, Bellamy Hunt (Me? Wow, thanks!), Khalik Allah, Bruce Gilden and Daido Moriyama.

Recently I have exhibited as part of Thailand Street Photography at the Bangkok Arts and Culture Centre. I am currently working on my first solo exhibition.

Thanks so much Bellamy

Thanks

Thanks for sharing your bag with us again Nic. I love this one. You do have a great choice in tea, although I am more of a Sayama Cha person. I really appreciate your kind words too. I hope that the solo exhibition goes well.

Please keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on Japancamerahunter.com

Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.
Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.

Cheers
