Film News: Roses are Harman Red

Last week Harman teased us all with a cryptic message on their Instagram account. This led to the inevitable wild speculation, would it be 4×5? How about bulk rolls? Discfilm? At last all is revealed. Roses are Harman Red, violets are blue, Harman has a new film for just for you. Happy Valentine’s day.

You’ve got red on you…

It looks like Harman have been busy, with the success of Phoenix they have released a new-ish film. This is a professionally finished redscale film based on the Phoenix emulsion. The high red sensitivity of this emulsion coupled with the clear base and lack of anti-halation layer make it perfect for redscale will minimal speed loss. (Many colour films can suffer from speed loss when converted to redscale).

HARMAN RED is processed as standard C41 and no special scanning required. Which is good news as my scanner is broken and I had to get the local lab to scan it.

These are straight from the scanner, shot at box speed in a Canon Autoboy. I got a couple of rolls to test out, though I managed to kill one of them with out of date developer. It is a fun film to experiment with especially if the light is right. It might not be a groundbreaking new film, but it is another step on the path that Harman has taken to expand their range of color films. I see this as a win.

If you have shot redscale before you know that the applications are limited, but if you are looking for that special look then Harman Red is going to be a great addition to your film case.
