In your bag 808, Roger Carulla Bové
A Sunday requires some Sunday bags for you all. And Roger has provided us with a couple of lovely bags to enjoy. come and check them out.
I’m not sure when I stomped to your website, but it’s pretty awesome. The best thing of reading the “in your bag” stories, is that they make me go out and shoot rather than buying more stuff!
I’m Roger, a Catalan guy living in Espoo, Finland, 32 years old working as manager in a Software Company (rather boring so far). When it comes to photography I’m a late bloomer. My father was the real photography aficionado of the family and a Nikon man (starting from Nikon F!). For me it took 30 years to get interested…
My wife and my parents gave me for my 30th birthday a Nikon D3100. I got hooked pretty quickly and the gear evolved to a D800 in the beginning of 2013. Don’t care what some people say; it’s an awesome camera and I don’t mind the file size. And then all hell broke loose…
Because of the people in the “Glorious Club” in the Spanish Nikon users forum I got curious about film. I got myself an FM2n (I had already some “old” AI(s) lenses) and before I had shot the first roll of film I bought and F4s, which is just awesome. The latest addition to the film family is a Nikon FG.
As for the bag, this Billingham is also a pretty recent acquisition I’ve been drooling over for quite some time. Now that I have it I just think it’s totally awesome.
I find street photography super interesting, but shooting street photography in Espoo is like shooting wildlife inside churches… So I shot a bit of everything and I don’t do anything very well, but boy do I have fun with it!
Now for the gear. I’m a Nikon guy and an SLR guy. I’m getting curious about rangefinders, but haven’t really tried any yet (maybe I keep it that way!). I don’t carry them all always, that depends on the mood, really:
Bag: Billingham Hadley Small (fibernite, sage color).
Digital cameras: Nikon D800 (used to take the pictures); Fujifilm X20 (my only non-Nikon camera)
Film cameras:
– Nikon F4s: it’s just a beast and a joy to shoot with. Who needs more than 1 focus point? Makes my D800 feel light. Also has the most compatible Nikon F mount ever (I think it still trumps the new Df).
– Nikon FM2n: seriously, all mechanical and up to 1/4000s, how cool is that?
– Nikon FG: aperture priority and split prism for budget price
Lenses:
– Nikkor 24-120mm f/4 VR. My all-round for the D800
– Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 micro. I actually don’t shoot macro with it, but it’s great for product photography
– Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AF-D. It has aperture ring, so works with all my Nikon cameras (full functionality)
– Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 HSM. Not stabilized, with aperture ring so it pairs well and often with the F4s.
– Nikkor 28mm f/3.5 AI. I’d prefer the 2.8 AIs, but hey… it was cheap
– Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AIs. It’s practically welded to the FM2n, just brilliant.
– Nikkor 85mm f/2 AIs. So small and so awesome!
– Nikkor 135mm f/2.8 AI. Pocket size portrait lense.
Film: I’ve used so far Portra 400 for color and TMax 400 for B&W. I will try no HP5+ from Ilford and also the new emulsions by Agfaphoto, the APX (100 and 400). And I shot a test roll of Fujicolor 200 with the FG, but I still don’t know if anything came out of it…
Miscellaneous: Moleskine notebook, parker pen, leatherman Style CS, Thrunite Ti.

Thanks for sharing your bag with us Roger. That F4 is lovely, a massive monster of a camera.
Check out the links and make sure you come and comment.
Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on Japancamerahunter.com. Send me a hi resolution image of the bag (please make sure it is horizontal) and its contents, with some details about yourself and what you shoot. Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.
Cheers

Lovely bag, Roger. You made a great choice with the gear. You can imagine how gutted I felt when I got my F4s after I got my 50 mm f/1.4G.
SLR and rangefinders serve different purpose. So how deeply you fall in love with RF depends on what you shoot. But you’ll definitely fall in love. :P
Salut!
Adio !
A small tip for the Portra (works for the 160 but should work also on the 400) : during the “golden hour”, take your light measure on the shadows. The light will become a golden gleaming beauty.
I love Portra for that specific effect.
