Came across Rico’s work through a mutual friend in Baltimore and immediately was struck by his humanity captured often in medium format. The lack of contrivance was refreshing for work that just comes off natural. A lot of his subjects are in and around the music scene in Baltimore and as a musical artist as well his work shows that familiarity and ease. Always found musical artists the most difficult to shoot because they got their ideas and it can be a struggle haha, and you see it in a lot of the photography where either an Anton Corbjin obviously dominates the vision or the artists who I find when more in control feature redundant ideas and similar motifs. Could also just be photographers who shoot in cliches for the later, but that naturalness with Rico is refreshing. For more check his links below:
