In your bag No: 1555 – Jesse Anderson

Everything’s big in Texas except Jesse’s bag which is ready for any type of shots the DFW area has to offer.

My name is Jesse K. Anderson and I live right  in the middle of the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Like any good Boyscout, when wandering the streets of DFW it’s best to be prepared (for any inspiration that may come your way). However, the North Texas heat can be cruel so I recommend a carrying a light load and sticking to the essentials. That’s why the tiny Minolta CLE and even tinnier Ricoh GR1s are big players when it comes time to exploring the vastly different cities. Juggling worklife and father duties my street time is limited which is why i find it best to have a few options on my person.

The DFW area is never short of photographic moments, whether it be world famous architecture and museums to the night life and city lights. You might find yourself in the hustle of the State Fair, or wandering the abandoned buildings that lie in the outskirts, to taking portraits on rooftops with skyline backdrops. There’s always something worth snapping a few pics of and it’s only a short ride on the Dart between the two cities.

Even though my collection seems to be growing (and I do carry my digital cameras from time to time) I still regularly come back to a few strong players when it comes to shooting film. The Minolta CLE had been on my wishlist for quite some time and early this summer I pulled the trigger. It is light weight, crazy sharp lenses, and extremely satisfying to shoot with. I find using the Aperture priority setting to be  handy when checking my metering.

My current films of choice are Kodak Portra 400 and Kodak Tri-X (which does get pushed to 1600 every now and then by altering the DX codes on the Ricoh). And for my cheap options I roll with Fuji Superia X-Tra. I have purchased a few rolls of Portra 160 which I’ve heard is amazing but have yet to shoot any at this time.

Bag: Domke F-5XB

  • Minolta CLE w/ M-Rokkor 40mmF2 & M-Rokkor 28mmF2.8
  • Ricoh GR1s
  • Minolta Autocord

  • Kodak Portra 400 120&35mm
  • Kodak Tri-X 400

I recommend bringing along plenty of water, maybe a Powerbar, a few mints, and always a good pair of shoes if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors. Cheers from Texas to all my fellow film shooters and keep on waving the analogue flag. Drop a line anytime, I love to talk shop.

Thanks for sending us your bag shot Jesse, as well your tips for the Lone Star State. Keep on waving that analog flag indeed.

Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on

Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.
Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.

Thanks for showcasing my smaller setup Bellamy. Your site has been a wealth of knowledge and inspiration since diving down the photography rabbit hole 2 years ago.

My backlog of undeveloped film is growing as I unintentionally keep putting it off and go shoot some some packfilm or Polaroids.

PS. When can we expect some JCH Packfilm? My 250 is curious.
