It has been a while since I have put a video up, so I thought is should be one with some substance and verve. I decided on Coney Island by Bruce Gilden as it is a series by a photographer that polarizes many people. Whilst I am generally not a huge fan of Gilden’s work, I do very much like this particular series. Gilden has a sense of humor and timing which is very apparent in this work. In this set he has managed to capture a divine comedy of humanity, with themes of death, love, religion and laughter.

Gilden likes to get up close and personal, which is funny to imagine him on the beach in his photovest whilst everyone else is in bathing suits and summer wear. There is an intensity to his vision and you can see the elements of his character coming through in these pictures. In my opinion this is what makes a successful photographer, the ability to show yourself through your work.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do, it is a bit of a long one, but worth the watch if you have a spare 10 minutes.
Cheers
