In your bag No: 1424, Thomas Dorat
Another great bag, from another Tom! This time it is Thomas, from France. And he has a lifetime of shooting film, starting very young indeed. Check it out.

My name is Thomas Dorat, i’m french. I’m 26 years old.
I discovered the magic of the silver in the lab of my father when i was five years old. Later at the age of fourteen, my parents bought me my first camera, a Yashica Fr1 i never let go since!
It is much later that i began (briefly) to digital photography…
I walk in the wind and my desires, following my instinct and releases the shutter when a scene of life, geometry, shapes challenge me… Rarely between 11h and 15h, too hard. I try to be as discreet as possible. I still have demand for photographic paper authorization in case …
Every year i go to London a few days. I love this city, I think this is the ultimate in street photography. It is the clash of cultures in the respect for difference and the city is artistic. You feel alive and free to compose as you wish.
I am preparing a big project for years. Some pictures “artificial” that will be about ocean pollution by mankind and plastic …
And many others that i write, draws on a small notebook.
I am passionate about science, especially astronomy. I read novels and science fiction, horror… Lovecraft, my favorite!
I love the work of David Bailey, Ray Metzker, Bernard Faucon, HCB course, but also those of Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, Monet inspire me a lot.
I tried lots of bags, backpacks, shoulder, slingshot, dedicate for photography or not … The must have in my opinion is a Eastpak Floid! Very comfortable, you almost don’t feel it on the back !

Here’s what I usually tote in my bag:
– Yashica Fr1 and winder
– Contax 139Q
– Carl Zeiss Sonar T * 85mm F2.8
– Yashica 50mm F1.7 ML
– Some films
– A notepad and pen
– A cloth
– A disposable poncho
– And of course, a bit of photographic culture …
I also have a Yashica 35mm F2.8 ML and CZ Sonnar T * 135mm F2.8 I use very little.

I work mainly with 50mm F4 often closed to F5.6 or F8 rarely, focus preset, and HP5 @ 400iso soaked in ID11 1 + 1 or 1 + 3.
Always developed at 20 ° C, very gentle inversions during the first 30 seconds and then a soft reversal every minute followed by 4 to 5, very smooth rotations of the coil. So I have a grain and contrast which is fairly content. But recently I experimented the HP5 to 250iso under development with a -15% of the basic time to contain the density of the film and I recovered the shadow detail is obvious! See under the enlarger what happens …
I pull on the Bergger NB variable paper, often split grading, and I finish with a Selenium tuner. From time to time I can be applied locally to the ferry to highlight certain areas, a technique that I discovered recently.
For scanning i use a Elinchrom Dia-Duplicator with a Nikon D90.
