In your bag No: 1417, Gray Kotze
There is a typhoon hitting Tokyo at the moment, so spirits are down. But this bag certainly cheers me up. Gray has a classic bag for us to enjoy. Check it out.

Hi. I’m Gray Kotze and this is my bag.

The actual bag is just a cheap sling bag. Although, depending on what I’m shooting I sometimes don’t carry around a bag as I prefer as minimalist a setup as possible. The more freedom I have whilst walking around and shooting the better.

My go to gear is a Nikon F3 with a 24mm Nikkor f/2.8 and a 50mm Nikkor f/1.4. I love the ease of use and the hardiness of the F3, as well the wide range of older, cheap but beautiful and fast Nikkor lenses. I tend to shoot portraits as well as landscapes and as such favour fast primes and wide angles. Sometimes I’ll bring out a 70 -200mm Nikkor f/4 – 5.6 if I need something longer but I tend to favour wider lenses.

As for film, I love the skin tones of Portra 400 which I struggle to beat with digital which is one reason why I usually use film for my portrait work. Another reason is that it has slowed down my shooting and made it far more accurate…and who doesn’t love the feeling of getting your film back after a bit of a wait.

Once the sun has set I love Fuji Natura 1600 film. It has great colours and relatively low noise for a 1600 speed film.

On occasion (when I have spare cash to spend on 120 film) I’ll bring out the old Semflex. It has a 75mm Berthiot f/3.5 which, although not terribly sharp is a lot of fun to play around with. As such I like to use black and white film with it, usually Ilford HP5, but, personally, I’m not too picky about black and white film.

And of course now the iPhone is great for when I don’t have anything else on me.

Thanks for sharing your bag with us, Gray. That Semflex is gorgeous.

Keep them coming folks, we need more submissions, so get your bag on

Send me a high resolution image of the bag. Optimum size is 1500px across. Please ensure there is a bag in the shot, unless you don’t use one. The more you can write about yourself the better, make it appealing and tell us a story. Snapshots of your gear with a camera phone and no words will not be featured.

Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.
