In your bag 727, Gemma Rochester
Yay! A lady bag! It is not all that often we get them on the site, so it is really nice to see them represented. And represented well, this one is awesome. Come and check it out.
I’m Gemma, I’m from the UK but I’ve been living in China for 3 years teaching digital media. Actually I’m not into digital stuff at all. I like film and I like cameras and I like taking photos.
I don’t really have a style, I just shoot what I do and what I see: often my friends and students. I have quite a few analogue cameras in my collection but most of them are in storage in the UK. My work can be found on my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/ and also on my tumblr: http://gemmarochester.tumblr.com/
I am a girl and I don’t see many girl bags on here so I thought I’d submit mine.
My bag is a Crumpler jackpack half photo. It has a part in the bottom to hold my cameras and backs and another section up top for all my wee bits and pieces and my laptop. The best thing about the bag is the orange lining, this makes it much easier to locate little black camera bits and bobs compared to my previous backpack which was black inside.
I carry a Bronica ETRS with a grip and prism finder. This is my day-to-day camera it’s heavy in the bag. It has a hefty crumpler strap so I can sling it across my body when I get to my destination for quick shooting. 1 x additional 120 back. Normally one back has colour film (portra 400 or lomo 800 and the other has either black and white (tmax 400 or delta 3200) or an expired slide film. The backs are customised using washi tape so I can see at a glance which is which, I can also write on the back using marker. I also carry a waist level finder which I often use for shooting portraits.
A mechanical pencil and a black marker, the marker is good for writing on film or canisters or camera backs. My passport, it’s a legal requirement I carry it with me at all times. Make-up, personalised with washi tape: this is blusher and has a wee mirror inside the lid which comes in handy now and then. Hand cream because the winter is REALLY cold in Beijing and I find it hard to shoot wearing gloves (in the summer I normally swap this for some factor 15 suncream). Stomach pills and paracetamol, just in case. Two filters for B&W, one red and one yellow.
Yashica T5 (this my second one, my first (silver) I leant to my friend in UK but I couldn’t live without it) sometimes I put this in my pocket or hang on a lanyard around my neck, but more often than not it’s in the bag. Manfrotto ball head (tripod doesn’t fit in the bag so it’s not in the photo). A craft knife, always comes in handy. Small clips, paper clips and a hair bobble. Iphone with chinese sim (doubles as a light meter). Old beat up blackberry curve with UK sim. Rolls of electrical / washi tape for all kinds of sticking labeling and fixing. A tiny tin of tiger balm.
Various 120 films (stored in M&M tubes: I use red for exposed and ready to process and yellow for unexposed and ready to shoot). Various 35mm films: grey lids for unexposed, white for exposed.
Finally my 11” macbook air, mainly use it for work but also occasionally for browsing flickr and tumblr, looking for inspiration and catching up with friends from home.
谢谢！ Thanks for taking the time to look in my bag. :)

Send me a hi resolution image of the bag (please make sure it is horizontal) and its contents, with some details about yourself and what you shoot. Oh and don’t forget your contact details (twitter, flickr, tumbler et al). Send the bag shots here. Please understand that there is a long wait now as there is a backlog of submissions. Not all make the cut, so make sure yours is funny/interesting/quirky. And please make sure the shot is of good quality, as the ones that are not do not go up.
