In your bag 401, Leonardo Ruiz
And we keep rolling. Todays bag is coming from the Lone Star state and features a nice mix of old and new. Leo shares with us his bag and his story. Check it out.

Howdy Bellamy,

I am Leonardo Ruiz, but please call me Leo. I am originally from Beaumont, Texas , but have settled near Austin. I started shooting event photography with the military (not my actual MOS though) and eventually that grew to weddings, engagements, and just people portraits in general.  I do that mostly with my Canon DSLRs; however, this setup is more for personal fun and mobility. I now have a 7 month old and she keeps me busy most days so I find my photos including a lot more of her.  Nobody seems to complain too much though. Additionally, I have recently decided to try my hand at film again thanks to your site and the desire to shoot a rangefinder.

In My Bag (Domke F-803):

FujiFilm FinePix X100 – I picked this up after a lot of research and debate.  It is always by my side.  I wanted to try Fuji out before committing to the X Pro 1 or whatever replaces it in the future.  I’m sold.

Canon Canonet QL 17 – I wanted a rangefinder and to try film again without committing a lot of money. After browsing JCH a while, I decided on the QL-17. I haven’t even finished my first roll yet, but I hope to try my hand and developing soon and see how it goes.

Business Card Holder – Had some business cards made and was given this as a gift.

AT&T LTE Hot Spot – Fast internet on the go.

Sennheiser IE8 Headphones / Apple Earpods – I use both, but it depends if I want to be able to hear my surroundings, or just enjoy music.

Film – Currently trying out a variety of film to see what I like best.  I think there is Fuji Neopan 400 and Ilford Delta 100 in the photo.

A Black Rapid Point and Shoot strap – It’s not quite as nice as the DSLR version, but still gets the job done

iPad 3rd Gen

iPhone 5 (usually in my pocket)

Apple Camera Kit  -  To keep things simple and upload photos to the iPad on the go.  I find this to work quite well for me. Although, I do shoot RAW+JPEG and when they upload to the iPad, I have to remove the RAW files later.

Power Adapter, Extra Battery, and Memory Cards

VGA adapter /HDMI adapter for iPad

It’s not a knife, but I carry the #0 Phillips/Flathead screwdriver.

Small USB Mini/Micro cables

Wacom Bamboo Stylus

LENSPEN

HDMI Cable and Apple USB Cables.

I tend to overpack regardless of how much I think a minimalist approach would be ideal.  I carry a lot of the a/v stuff for “in case” purposes.  I’ll keep trying to keep the kit light, but I’m not making any promises.

I really enjoy the “In Your Bag” section of the website and look forward to more bags/gear.

“Todays bag is coming from the Lone Star state…”
No, no, no Bellamy. That intro should have read: YEEHAW! Y’all come check this bag out. It’s from Texas y’all. It’s from Texas! :-)

I did the same with my X100, now I bought an X-Pro 1. Fuji is the new preeminent camera designer! As for the Canonet, I need to buy one of those too, they seem to work great. Nice kit, congrats on the kid.

Hello! I really enjoyed your photos. Suggest bareja wedding and Ambie military. I write from Europe, the Mediterranean Mallorca, and I was surprised the atmosphere so close. Definitely the world has shrunk.
